Traffic movement has been suspended on the Baltana bridge (Sukhna Choe) and the Mubarikpur causeway (Ghaggar River) to avoid any untoward incident as part of precautionary measures.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Komal Mittal today reviewed the situation arising out of additional water release from Sukhna Headworks into Sukhna Choe. She also visited the Baltana bridge site in the morning to take stock of the arrangements.
The DC informed that Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal was deputed to monitor the water flow through the urban local body areas including Zirakpur and Dera Bassi.
She said while water levels had increased, there was no immediate threat to residents. The district administration was maintaining constant vigil, and all necessary machinery and manpower had been kept on standby to deal with any eventuality, she said.
The DC further stated that residents in the vicinity of Sukhna Choe and Ghaggar River should avoid venturing near these water bodies and use alternate routes for travelling of their respective destinations.
The administration reiterated that the situation was under control and appealed to citizens not to believe or spread rumours regarding flooding.
