A training session aimed at promoting zero waste burning and strengthening environmentally responsible solid waste management practices was jointly organised by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Regional Office Mohali, and the Municipal Corporation (MC).

Navtesh Singla, Executive Engineer, PPCB, along with resource person Swati sensitised participants about the severe environmental and health hazards associated with burning solid waste. They highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly waste handling practices to safeguard public health and improve overall air quality.

Around 150 Safai Sewaks, rag pickers, officers and officials of the civic body attended the training. The session focused on creating awareness about the ill effects of burning municipal solid waste and horticulture waste. It also covered legal provisions related to waste burning, including penalties and enforcement mechanisms under various environmental laws. —TNS
