Trees pruned in Chandigarh, MC wing clueless

Hundreds of trees alongside the main roads in the city have been pruned down, but the Municipal Corporation’s horticulture wing has no clue to it.
“The way trees have been pruned comes in the category of ‘hard cutting’,” said an official of the horticulture wing of the civic body.
On Friday, chopped branches of trees lay strewn on Sector 32-33, Sector 19-27, Sector 20-21, Sector 17-18 and Sector 14-25 roads.
Krishan Pal Singh, SE (Horticulture circle), said: “We have not carried out pruning in any sector. We came to know about it when people started calling us to clear the areas near houses. We are inquiring about it.”
Sources said the engineering wing of the UT Administration had carried out the drive to prevent the overhead high tension wires from mingling, but no one from the department confirmed it.
