A basketball court was inaugurated at The Tribune School, Sector 29-D, making it among the top few schools of the city to have this facility.

The synthetic court, with the provision of floodlights, was inaugurated by Gurbachan Jagat, Trustee of The Tribune Trust and Co-Chairman of School Management Committee, in the presence of Justice SS Sodhi, also Trustee of The Tribune Trust; Chand Nehru and Komal Anand, both members of the management committee ; Amit Sharma, General Manager, The Tribune; Jyoti Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune Group of Publications; Naresh Kaushal, Editor, Dainik Tribune; and Arvinder Johal, Officiating Editor, Punjabi Tribune, and others.

After the formal inauguration, the court was handed over to the school students by Madhav Goswamy, grandson of late Dr BN Goswamy, carrying on the legacy of his family towards the welfare of society. A ceremonial release of balloons into the sky was made by Madhav, besides launching the first basket on the court. Principal Rani Poddar thanked the Goswamy family for their unwavering support and contribution to making the dream of having a basketball court in the school come true.

Remembering Dr Goswamy, Gurbachan Jagat not only appreciated his work but also made a special mention of his family for carrying on his legacy. “Each one in the family is unique and it’s a great experience to know them. Dr Goswamy was one of the first persons of the Independent India to have resigned from the Civil Services after two years to follow his passion. We shared the same college in Hoshiarpur, and I remember how famous he was among the college fraternity,” he remembered.

Dr Goswamy, known as BNG in art circles, had been awarded with Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan. He has played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding and appreciation of art.

An exhibition match was played between the female cagers of the Chandigarh Youth and Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26.
