Chandigarh, March 15
Well-known poets paid literary tributes to commemorate legendary Hindi poetess Mahadevi Verma at a Kavi Sammelan organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre ( NZCC), Patiala, at the auditorium of Mini Tagore theatre here today. Dr Saubhagya Vardhan, Director, NZCC, disclosed that a series of such programmes had been introduced to honour the legends. He saluted the poetic prominence of Mahadevi by reciting her hit poems like ‘Dhra ki saughandh’ and ‘Madhumas’. Other invited poets Pannu Mangle, Yashika Rajni Bajaj, Naresh Naaz, and Virender Sharma.
Punjabi litterateur Bakhtawar Singh Deol remembered
The Punjab Arts Council (PAC) organised a ‘ Deol Yaadgari Samagam ‘ to pay literary and musical tribute to celebrated Punjabi author Bakhtawar Singh ‘Doel’. Presiding over the function chief guest Surjit Patar hailed Doel’s incredible contribution to Punjabi literature. Eminent author Jalor Singh Kheeva read out a paper and offered critical appreciation of Doel’s literary works. Mandhir Singh Doel, son of the legend, also shared views regarding struggle and literary passion of Doel. Chief guest Surjit Patar honoured and blessed the late author’s son Mandhir Singh Deol.
