Nearly 6.1 million foreign tourists visited India in 2023 on medical visa and the figure is likely to jump to 7.3 million in 2024.

This was stated by Dr Aditya Aggarwal, former head of Orthopaedic Department at PGI, and now Director Ortho and Joint Replacement Surgery at Livasa Hospital, Mohali.

“The tricity is fast becoming a preferred destination for medical tourism. With increasing connectivity to tricity, many international patients are landing up for medical treatment,” he said.

“The medical tourism industry in India is likely to touch USD 13 billion by 2026. Indian doctors are ranked as best trained professional worldwide. Our surgical outcomes are better and comparable with international standards,” he said while addressing the media.

The cost of hip replacement which is around USD 57,000 in the US is around USD 7000 in India with the same implant, Dr Aggarwal added.
