Chandigarh, January 4
Tricity recorded 361 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday—the highest rise in its cases since mid-June.
Of this number, Chandigarh recorded 128 new cases, hitting three-digit figures for the first time since May-June last year. Active cases in the union territory touched 500, a health bulletin from the administration showed.
Fifty of the new Covid-19 patients are in hospitals and five are on ventilators, the bulletin said.
Chandigarh also recorded one fatality—a 77-year-old fully vaccinated man. This takes the UT’s fatality count since the pandemic began to stand at 1,079.
The daily positivity rate in Chandigarh shot up to 9.07 per cent on Tuesday from 1.09 per cent on December 28. The bulletin said Chandigarh also recorded 11 recoveries.
Mohali recorded the highest number of cases in the Tricity at 139. Panchkula reported 94 new cases and one death.
