According to police, an apple trader from Jehanabad, Bihar, lodged a complaint stating that he had on September 13 purchased 902 boxes of apples—valued at nearly Rs 15 lakh—from the apple market in Pinjore.

For transportation, he contacted Ahsan, son of Ayyub, a resident of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, through a known transporter.

Ahsan, who also drives the truck himself, loaded the apples and left Pinjore the same day, supposedly for Gaya, Bihar.

However, shortly afterwards, his phone was found switched off and he disappeared from his residence as well. Suspecting fraud, the trader filed a complaint, after which a case was registered at the Pinjore Police Station on October 4 under sections 316(3), 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The investigation was assigned to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sunil Kumar of the EOW. Following sustained efforts, the police arrested Ahsan on Friday.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that instead of transporting the apples to Bihar, he had sold the entire consignment at Saharanpur Mandi in Uttar Pradesh.

Economic Offences Wing in-charge Subhash Chander said the accused was produced in court today and remanded to five days’ police custody. The police will now question him further to recover the cheated amount and uncover additional details relevant to the case.
