The police cracked two separate cases of vehicle thefts with the arrest of as many miscreants. In the first case, a man was arrested for allegedly stealing a woman’s e-rickshaw. The team recovered Rs 15,000 from him, which he had obtained after dismantling and selling the vehicle. The accused has since been remanded to judicial custody.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Arvind Kamboj informed that on August 11, Sunita, a resident of Sector 17, lodged a complaint at the Sector 16 Police Post, reporting that her e-rickshaw had been stolen from the main road of Rajiv Colony.
A case of theft was registered at the Sector 14 Police Station and a police team began investigations, scrutinising CCTV footage and exploring technical leads, though no immediate clue was found.
On Sunday, Crime Branch-26 in-charge Dalip Singh received a tip-off, following which his team swiftly moved into action and arrested the accused, Ankit, son of Sunil, a native of Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh and currently residing on rent in Zirakpur, Mohali district. The investigation was led by Head Constable Suresh Pal.
During questioning, it was revealed that Ankit had dismantled the stolen e-rickshaw and sold its parts, receiving Rs 15,000 in return. The amount was recovered from him by the police.
The accused was produced before the court today and has been sent to judicial custody.
The police’s detective Staff, meanwhile, cracked a bike theft case by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen vehicle.
Kamboj said that on August 20, Virender Jangra of Sector-11, lodged a complaint at the Sector 14 Police Station. He reported that his bike had broken down near Sector 14 on August 4 and he had parked it at the Directorate of Prosecution building. When he returned, the bike was missing.
Acting on a tip-off, Detective Staff in-charge Inspector Mandeep Singh led a raid and arrested Ravi Kumar, son of Dharmapal, resident of Khizargarh in Mohali on August. The stolen bike, which had been hidden in Sector-20, was also recovered.
The accused was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
