Chandigarh: The police have arrested two persons for possessing drugs. Atul Syal, alias Sunny (31), a resident of Dera Bassi, and Gaurav, a Sector 21 resident, were arrested from Sector 18 while riding a car. The police said 15 gm heroin and 28 banned injections were recovered from them. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act at the Sector 19 police station. TNS

Mobile phone snatched

Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne suspects allegedly snatched a mobile phone in Sector 37. Complainant Shaurya Dutt claimed the miscreants snatched his iPhone near the government school. A case has been registered. TNS

Two held with 2.6 kg opium

Lalru: The police arrested two youths and recovered 2.6 kg of opium from them. The suspects have been identified as Bareilly residents Aaf, 23, and Ram Lakhan, 22. They have been booked under the NDPS Act at the Lalru police station. On Wednesday, the Sadar Kharar police had arrested three persons near a private college and recovered 2.6 kg opium from them. A case was registered at the Sadar Kharar police station. TNS

Tennis tourney

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association will organise CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament for Boys & Girls U-14 and U-18 from August 1 to 5. Qualifying matches for this event will be played at the CLTA tennis stadium in Sector 10 on July 30 and 31. As many as 75 players have signed in for the qualifying events. Players from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, UP, Manipur, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, J&K and Karnataka are taking part in the tournament.
