Two chain snatchers in Chandigarh police dragnet
The UT police arrested two persons for snatching a woman’s gold chain here on Friday.
The suspects were identified as Rohit, alias Gulli, a resident of Ram Darbar, Phase 1, and Vijay, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran. Both of them have an extensive criminal background.
In a complaint to the police, Palvinder Choudhary of Sector 22 stated that she was out for a morning walk with her husband around 6 am. She was walking along the slip road on the Sector 21/22 stretch when she was accosted by two motorcyclists coming from the ISBT-17 roundabout. They were driving on the wrong side of the road. The person riding pillion snatched her gold chain following which the bikers fled the spot. Neither of them was wearing a helmet.
A case under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS Act was registered at the Sector 19 police station. Acting on the information, the police nabbed the suspects. The gold chain was recovered from them.
Preliminary investigation revealed that both men are habitual offenders. Rohit has been booked in multiple cases ranging from theft and snatching to assault and criminal trespass, with at least seven FIRs registered against him in the past. Vijay also has a criminal history dating back to 2009, involving cases of burglary and robbery.
Meanwhile, Rajinder Arora, a resident of Progressive Society, Sector 50-D, reported that two unidentified motorcyclists snatched his gold chain near the road separating Sectors 45 and 50 on Friday morning. A case was registered at the Sector 49 police station.
