Chandigarh: Two days on, woman’s murder still a mystery
Chandigarh, March 1
Two days after the naked body of a woman was found in the forest area of Sector 54, the UT police are yet to make a breakthrough in the murder case.
The victim, aged around 55, had gone missing on February 27. Her husband, a resident of Phase V, had also lodged a missing complaint with the Mohali police.
A day later, her body was discovered in the forest area, which fell in Chandigarh, and the police were informed about it.
A senior police official said the investigating teams were actively pursuing leads and questioning suspects in the case.
Although the autopsy report was pending, initial findings suggested that the victim was not sexually assaulted, indicating that the motive behind the crime could be something else, sources said.
The incident draws parallels with an unsolved case registered at the Maloya police station two years ago. The authorities, however, insist the two cases are distinct.
Sexual assault was established as the motive in the Maloya case, contrasting with the current investigations that focus on other motives, the police said.
On January 12, 2022, a 40-year-old woman was found murdered in Maloya. Her naked body with a pair of socks stuffed in her mouth was recovered from bushes close to her house. A mother of three, the woman was sexually assaulted. The case remains a mystery for the police and the victim’s family.
DNA tests linked this case to the 2010 murder and rape of a 22-year-old MBA student in Sector 38 (West), revealing that the same perpetrator was involved in the crime.
