Kunal Chopra of Nilokheri in Karnal had filed a complaint that Kushbinder (with whom he established contact through his acquaintance Sanjeev), two police constables and five unknown persons took away his bag containing Rs 55.50 lakh at a hotel room in Sector 5 where he was putting up.

He told the police that Kushbinder had asked him to bring Rs 55 lakh in cash to be paid as advance to finalise a deal for a house owned by an NRI in Panchkula.

Chopra had alleged that the police personnel, including those present at the Sector 14 police station where he subsequently went for help, also threatened to implicate him in a false case. A case was registered in this connection against Sanjeev, Kushbinder Sharma and others under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 384 (extortion) and 420 (cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property) of the IPC at the Sector 5 police station on December 8. — TNS
