A local court has sentenced two residents of Chandigarh’s Sector 25, Raman and Ranjit, to life imprisonment in a murder case registered four years ago.
The case was registered on January 22, 2019, under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC following a complaint by a local resident, Vasudev.
According to the complainant, a daily wager who lives in Sector 25, he came across the body of a man near his jhuggi on the early morning of January 22, 2019. The body was covered in bruises from thrashing and bore wounds reportedly inflicted in an attack with a sharp-edged weapon. He soon alerted the police about the matter.
A case was subsequently registered, and the police arrested the accused on the statement of a person who claimed to have seen them thrashing the victim. The police also seized the weapon allegedly used in the crime from the accused.

Public prosecutor Atul Sethi, however, contended that the prosecution had proved the case beyond a shadow of a doubt. He noted that the forensic reports proved the case of the prosecution, pointing to the fact that the blood sample found on the clothes of the accused and the weapon matched the blood sample of the victim. After hearing the arguments, the court convicted the duo and sentenced both of them to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 each on the convicts.
