The Operation Cell of the UT police have unearthed an international drug racket with the arrest of two persons.
The suspects were identified as Akashdeep Singh and Shamsher Singh. The police seized 297.40 grams of heroin, worth nearly Rs30 lakh, from them.
Investigations revealed that they were working under the directions of Gurlal Singh, a notorious criminal lodged in Punjab’s Goindwal Sahib Jail. Financial trails suggested their involvement in hawala transactions, funneling drug money to Pakistan.
Further enquiries linked Gurlal Singh and Shamsher Singh to an ISI-led espionage operation in Rajasthan. They had allegedly been in contact with a railway official, Bhawani Singh, who was honey-trapped by a Pakistani agent and leaked sensitive Indian Army details for money. Their financial transactions with Bhawani Singh have been traced, and the Rajasthan Police had been informed, said the police.
During a raid at Shamsher Singh’s village near the Pakistan border, the police seized a country-made pistol, drug money, and a swift car used in criminal activities. Further investigation in the case is underway.
Meanwhile, a Tanzanian national, Shufaa, was arrested from the ISBT in Sector 17. The police found her in possession of 100 cocaine/crack balls. Operating from Delhi, she was one of the key drug suppliers in Chandigarh and its vicinity.
