A couple who was on a bike had a narrow escape as the car after hitting them went across the road median and ploughed into the parking area, taking another biker in its spate before finally coming to a stop after ramming into a tree. The couple was discharged after first-aid treatment. After the accident, the two occupants of the car reportedly fled the spot. The police have booked car driver Inderjit Singh of Sector 39 for rash driving at the Mataur police station. Later in the morning, some gig workers gathered at the spot and blocked the road. The police rushed to the spot to restore traffic in the busy area during the morning hours.

Harpreet Singh Dadhwal said, “What was the fault of these poor delivery boys who were toiling in bitter cold at 3.12 am for their family’s sake. It is very sad that the police have failed to control rowdy elements in the city.”

Area councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi said, “There is no fear of police. Drunk youths perform stunts in parking lots of Phase-3B2 market. Market associations have complained many times, but the cops do not act.”
