Two illegal betting rackets busted in Panchkula, five held
The police busted two alleged betting rackets with the arrest of five people. The team recovered Rs 12,000 in cash along with betting slips and other material.
DCP Crime Amit Dahiya received specific intelligence about betting activity near the Bharat Gas warehouse. A team led by Inspector Bachhu Singh from Mansa Devi police station was formed, which raided the area near Koohni Sahib Gurdwara and apprehended three individuals engaged in gambling. They accused, Chandigarh resident Manish Kumar and Manimajara residents Sangam and Murad, were caught soliciting bets in public.
The police sent a decoy customer to confirm the activity, and upon receiving a betting slip, arrested the accused.
In another operation, ASI Satish Kumar and his team from Sector 16 police post arrested Umesh, a resident of Rajiv Colony, while he was conducting betting activities at a vacant plot in Budhanpur. Another individual, Amit Kumar from Mauli Jagran, was also caught placing a bet. A decoy was again used to verify the activity.
Separate cases have been registered under Section 13A of the Gambling Act.
