Two minors stab HP native to death over Rs 180, mobile phone in Chandigarh

A 35-year-old man from Himachal Pradesh was stabbed to death by two juveniles during a robbery attempt near a bus stop in Sector 43. His body was found around 7 pm on Wednesday.

The police claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of two juveniles within 12 hours after the murder. The victim, identified as Kaku, a resident of Kog village in Theog tehsil of Shimla district, had come to Chandigarh to visit his sister who lives in Sector 44. He was attacked while he was on his way to meet a friend.

Kaku was found unconscious on the road behind the bus stop and rushed to the Government Medical Super-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. A murder case was registered at the Sector 36 police station.

UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur supervised the investigation conducted by SP (City) Geetanjali Khandelwal and ASP (South-West) Anurag Daru. The police detained two minors and recovered the victim’s mobile phone and the knife used in the crime from them. The police said CCTV footage and technical surveillance helped them crack the case within 12 hours.

Detained from the forest area in Sector 53, the juveniles said they had cornered Kaku with the intention of robbing him of cash and valuables. They stabbed the victim when he resisted.

Sources said the HP native lost his life for mere Rs 180 cash and a mobile phone. Police officials confirmed that both juveniles would face legal proceedings.
