The Ambala police have booked three individuals after two men — Amit Verma and Pramod Kumar, residents of Ambala Cantonment — suffered gunshot wounds over a ‘petty’ dispute on Thursday. A case was registered against Dharmender, his son Vishu, and one unidentified youth.

In his complaint, Amit Verma (who runs a tea stall at Rai Market) said, “Dharmender reached my tea stall at around 12 noon in an inebriated state and bought a lighter from me for Rs 10. He later complained that the lighter was not working. Even though I replaced it, he began abusing and arguing with me, following which I asked him to buy the lighter from another shop.”

“A while later, Dharmender returned with his son Vishu and another youth. Vishu fired at me, which inflicted a wound on my left hip. Dharmender tried to assaulted my wife at the stall too,” he added. Pramod, a man who was in the area during the incident, said he had gone to pacify the situation when the suspects fired another gunshot, injuring him.

Amit was referred to PGI Chandigarh, and the police said the suspects fired several gunshots, of which four empty cartridges were recovered, adding that the suspects managed to flee.

A case has been registered at Ambala Cantonment police station under Sections 34, 307, 323, and 506 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

SHO Naresh Kumar said, “Two men have suffered injuries in the firing incident. The owner of the tea stall has told us that the suspects used to visit his stall regularly, but an argument over a lighter led to the incident. Further investigation is underway.”
