Two weeks after youth’s death, 3 friends booked for negligence
Two weeks after a 24-year-old MBA student died under mysterious circumstances in Sector 24, the UT police have booked his friends for negligence.
According to the complainant, ASI Salinder Singh, the police received information on December 31 that Kartik had been brought dead to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, around 5:10 pm. Kartik, a native of Himachal Pradesh, had been living in a rented accommodation with his friends in Sector 24. The investigation revealed that Kartik and his friends, Tarandeep Singh, Minkel and Karan, had organised a party on the night of December 30.
Around 3:10 am, Kartik reportedly fell off the second floor and sustained a head injury. His friends found him lying unconscious a few minutes later, brought him back to the room. When he did not regain consciousness, they rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A police official said there was a delay of around 12 hours before the victim’s friends sought medical assistance. “The accused showed negligence by not immediately taking the victim to the hospital. They didn’t even inform the police,” the official added.
The official said they had inspected the scene and scanned the CCTV footage which did not indicate any foul play. A case has been registered under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the BNS Act.
In November, a youth died of suspected drug overdose at Panjab University. His two friends were held on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting murder, as they took the victim to the hospital after much delay. — TNS
