Two years on, Singhpura flyover to become fully operational soon
Two years after work started on the project, the Singhpura flyover is all set to become fully operational within a fortnight. The Chandigarh-Delhi side was thrown open to traffic as part of a trial run today.
The Delhi-Chandigarh side, which had been functional earlier, has now been closed for re-carpeting. Soon, the other side will also be carpeted, after which the flyover will be thrown open to traffic, said officials concerned.
Meanwhile, sewage overflowing from the roadside drain is causing traffic jams on the service lane near the Ramada Palace for the past one week. Commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, face difficulties negotiating this waterlogged stretch.
“Due to slush and sewage, traffic moves slowly on this stretch, leading to a bottleneck,” said Harish Upadhaya, a two-wheeler rider, who works with a telecom firm.
Local residents complained that two-wheeler riders fell down after hitting sewage-filled potholes. “You can imagine how dangerous it is for two-wheeler riders to pass through this stretch at night,” said Kirti Kashyap, a commuter.
Local residents have put up a chair in front of a big pothole to caution riders.
