The Sohana police have arrested two youths for allegedly eloping with two girls to Haridwar on the pretext of marriage during the lockdown.
The two suspects have been identified as Ajit (18) and Manish (19), both residents of Kambala village. The duo had eloped with two girls, including a minor.
The police said the two suspects along with two girls, both sisters, were working at a factory in Industrial Area here. On April 22, the duo made a plan to take girls with them to Haridwar.
Investigation officer (IO), ASI Sikandar Singh, said the suspects along with girls reached Ambala from Mohali on foot and from there they hired a truck to Haridwar.
The mother of two girls complained to the police following which, an alert was sent to cops in Uttarkhand, the IO added. The police arrested the suspects from Haridwar and brought them to Mohali yesterday, the IO said.
The suspects were produced in a local court, which sent them to jail in Ludhiana while the two sisters were sent to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar today, the IO added. A case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) and 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), at the Sohana police station.
