Unhygienic preparation of street food at Phase-7 markets and the health department’s lackadaisical approach came to fore as social media was abuzz with videos showing unclean conditions at kitchen operating in the area.

The video, shot by local residents, purportedly show food being prepared in unhygienic conditions, dirty utensils. Workers can also be seen taking a bath right next to prepared food items. Stale food items and rotten vegetables and items stored in unclean containers can also be seen in the clips, which have been widely circulated.

“Such videos normally flood the social media channels around the festival time but no monitoring of food items or vendors is done regularly,” said a Phase-9 senior citizen.

Swinging into action after the videos went viral, the health department officials sealed two units in Mataur. Officials have also called the owners for explanation.
