Union Home Secy opens Police Command & Control Centre in Chandigarh

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla today inaugurated the Police Command and Control Centre (PCCC) at the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) Complex, Sector 17, here in the presence of UT Adviser Dharam Pal, DGP Praveer Ranjan and other senior officials.

While sharing information about the project, Dharm Pal said, “The objectives of Chandigarh Smart City mission are to enhance the safety and security, improve efficiency of municipal services and promote better quality of life for residents. To achieve these objectives, the UT desired to foster the development of a robust information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.”

The Adviser said, “The Police Command and Control Centre (PCCC) has been established under the ICCC project of the Chandigarh Smart City. It is monitoring the smart field elements like the CCTV surveillance cameras.”

“More than 1,000 cameras are installed for real-time surveillance of traffic junctions and other important buildings of Chandigarh like water works, parks, government hospitals, community centres, parking locations, schools and others at around 285 locations. This system uses artificial intelligence based advanced video analytics and generates automatic event alerts,” the Adviser added.

“The intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) wherein traffic enforcement systems, including red light violation detection (40 junctions), speed violation (10 systems), automatic number plate recognition (40 junctions and 20 entry and exits of the UT) has been implemented,” the Adviser said.
