The district unit of the Punjab State Cooperative Agriculture Employees Union, in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of district president Lakhbir Singh, decided to stage a dharna on October 28 against Markfed and IFFCO for allegedly forcing societies to purchase additional products along with DAP fertiliser.

Addressing mediapersons, Lakhbir Singh said Markfed was compelling societies to buy Cattle Feed Advil and other products with DAP and Urea fertilisers. He added IFFCO was also mandatorily tagging Nano DAP and Nano Urea with DAP and Urea, even though the societies had not demanded these products. He alleged there was no uniformity in the supply of fertilisers to cooperative societies.

He said the union had raised these problems with district cooperative department officers, but no action had been taken. As a result, the union decided to hold a dharna and peaceful protest march from the Markfed district office to the district administrative complex on October 28 at 11 am.

He said that employees, farmers and members of cooperative societies would participate in the protest and a memorandum would be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. He warned if their demands were not met, the agitation would be intensified.
