The Union Grant Commision (UGC) approved the arrears of salary for the Panjab University faculty today evening.
In a dual welcoming decision, the university has also received Rs 10.5 crore under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). Prof Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor of the university, thanked university Chancellor for approving the grant and also the seventh Pay Commission arrears for the PU faculty.
In an address to the faculty, Vig, appreciated university Chancellor and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and also the Union Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, UGC and UT Administration for the release of central funds for the seventh Pay Commission arrears for the faculty and staff members as well as for the RUSA grant of Rs 10.5 crore to the university. She was addressing a large gathering of faculty members on the PU campus following the receipt of a formal communiqué in this regard.
Dean University Instructions Rumina Sethi, director of the Research and Development Cell Yojna Rawat and Registrar YP Verma were also present on the occasion. Vig announced that an amount of Rs 10.5 crore under the RUSA grant had been received by the university for higher education research, with allocations of Rs 1.25 crore for the equity initiative, Rs 1.75 crore for faculty improvement and Rs 7.5 crore for research, innovation and quality improvement under RUSA. She informed the faculty members that this grant would be utilised to enhance central research facilities, establish an entrepreneurship, employability and innovation (EEI) hub, attract top-rated international faculty, support faculty and student exchange programmes, hire PhD and postdoctoral researchers, scale up industry-academia partnerships and promote research initiatives.
She further added that these efforts would significantly improve student employability and contribute to the overall uplift of the university
“I call upon all our teachers to continue putting their best efforts into nurturing the academic excellence of our university and contributing to its future success,” said the VC.
The meeting saw a large turnout of faculty members, all of whom expressed their gratitude for these positive developments.
