In a city like Chandigarh, women are in the forefront in every socio-economic and cultural activity.

While performing their duties, they become the victim of unscrupulous elements and consequently there have been violations of constitutional and human rights of women. Though there are various laws under which they can get some sort of relief, owing to procedural and cumbersome wrangling, they are deprived of justice. To defend women rights, the authorities concerned should create a separate and independent women commission in Chandigarh so that women can feel safe. — SK Khosla, Chandigarh

Safety a major concern

The recent incident of molestation of a woman journalist in the Panjab University’s botanical garden has made us all worried about safety of women and children in the city. My children go to the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA), Sector 10, Chandigarh, and my main concern as a parent is that there is no boundary wall around the premises. Despite a full-fledged mess for the players, a canteen catering to outsiders also exists on the premises, which is cause for concern. Many a time, parents have noticed groups of youngsters sitting with beer bottles on the premises. Seeing the present scenario, parents are concerned about the safety of their children. Why are these people given an entry into a sports institution? Why wait for an incident to occur? Why not take remedial measures now? — Samita Kaur, Chandigarh

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
