UT Adviser launches TB-elimination drive
Adviser to UT Administrator Rajeev Verma today launched a 100-day TB-elimination campaign at Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP).
The campaign, “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”, focuses on enhancing tuberculosis treatment services, particularly for vulnerable groups, including marginalised communities and individuals with comorbidities such as diabetes, HIV and malnutrition.
Verma said tuberculosis was a “silent but persistent enemy” and that the campaign showed the administration’s strong commitment to public health. He said, “The Union Territory of Chandigarh has made significant strides towards the country’s goal of achieving elimination of TB over the past few years. It has witnessed significant developments in diagnostics, introduction of new drugs with better outcomes and the timely delivery of overall patient care. The city has increased community engagement through a network of TB champions or ‘TB Vijayata’ to ensure proper information and support to patients.”
Verma also highlighted the administration’s increased engagement with print, electronic and social media to spread awareness. As part of the campaign, he flagged off a Nikshay Vahan, a mobile medical unit designed to reach TB patients. Food baskets were also distributed among TB survivors at the event.
Prominent dignitaries present during the launch included Ajay Chagti, Secretary Health; Dr Suman Singh, Director Health Services; Dr Sushil Mahi, Medical Superintendent; Dr Paramjit Singh, Deputy Medical Superintendent; Dr Charu Singla, Nodal officer for NHM; and Dr Rajesh Kumar Rana, State TB Officer.
