Chandigarh cops to probe role of gangster Basodi

Chandigarh, February 17

Gangster Raju Basodi, arrested by the Haryana Police from the Delhi airport, is also suspected to have been involved in the broad daylight murder of Sonu Shah in Chandigarh. Basodi is an accomplice of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The UT police will now probe his role in the murder case.

Police officials confirmed that Basodi would be brought to the city on a production warrant to interrogate his involvement in the murder.

Sonu Shah was gunned down by four assailants inside his office at Burail village, Sector 45, on September 28 last year. The assailants had pumped 10 bullets into Shah’s body. His two colleagues, who were present at his office, had also suffered bullet injuries. The assailants had arrived in the city at least four days before the murder after which they carried out a recce before finally executing the plan.

Two days after the murder, an audio was posted on Lawrence Bishnoi’s Facebook account in which a person, claiming to be Raju Basodi, had taken responsibility for Sonu’s murder. In October, the police arrested Dharminder Singh (28), who had allegedly assisted in the murder by providing the assailants accommodation at King Palace Hotel in Sector 80, Mohali. Later, Shubham Prajapati was arrested by the Punjab Police on October 23 after which the UT police brought him on a production warrant on October 28. During his interrogation, Shubham had revealed that the murder was carried out at the behest of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Raju Basodi. In November, another accused, Manjeet, was arrested by the Delhi Police and he was also brought on a production warrant by the UT police.
