UT issues R-Day traffic advisory

In view of the Republic Day function at Parade Ground in Sector 17, the UT Administration will place some traffic restrictions and divert some routes.

The following routes will remain out of bounds from 6.30 am onwards till the function concludes: Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout to Gurdial Singh petrol pump, Sector 22-A, on Udyog Path; Old District Courts, Sector 17, to Shivalik Hotel (on the rear of Parade Ground); Lyon’s Restaurant light point near MC office, Sector 17, to Parade Ground. Sector 22/23 light point to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout; Sector 16/23 small chowk to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout.

Traffic diversions

Buses heading towards ISBT-17 will be diverted from Kisan Bhawan chowk and Piccadilly chowk via Himalaya Marg to reach ISBT-17 from a small chowk (near the Gurdial Singh petrol pump). At the time of dispersal between 11.30 am and 12.15 pm, only buses will be allowed to ply on the stretch.

Security advisory

Invitees must be seated by 9.15 am at Parade Ground, Sector 17. Special invitees should enter from Gate Nos 4, 6 and 7 (opposite Sector 22). General public should enter from Gate Nos 8, 9 and 10 (opposite ISBT, Sector 17).

Attendees must carry a valid photo ID card. Special invitees must display the authorised parking label on their vehicle and carry the invitation card. The attendees should not bring bags, matches, knives, cigarettes, weapons, liquor, inflammables, electronics, black flags, banners or posters.

Where to park

The special invitees can park their vehicles in front of the market in Sector 22-A. General public can use parking area of Sector 22-B; Circus Ground, Sector 17; parking area near Neelam Cinema; multi-storey parking and parting lots, Sector 17.

‘At Home’

In view of the ‘At Home’ event, there will be restrictions on traffic movement around Punjab Raj Bhawan on Republic Day.

The movement on the road stretch in front of Raj Bhawan from the Sector 5/6/7/8 roundabout till the T-point of Vigyan Path and Sukhna Path shall remain restricted or diverted for public from 3 pm till the function gets over.

Curbs for rehearsal

A rehearsal for the Republic Day function will be held on January 24 from 9.30 am to 10.15 am at Parade Ground.

The following roads will be restricted: From Chief Secretary Residence, Sector 7, to Sector 5/6-7/8 Chowk, then to 4/5-8/9 Chowk, New Barricade Chowk, Old Barricade Chowk and towards War Memorial, Bougainvillea Garden, Sector 3. From War Memorial, Bougainvillea Garden, Sector 3, to Old Barricade Chowk, Matka Chowk, Sector 16/17 Light Point, Lyons Light Point, and Parade Ground, Sector 17.
