UT proposes no power tariff hike

Chandigarh, February 12

The UT Engineering Department has submitted a proposal for not increasing the power tariff for the financial year 2021-22 to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).

The submission was made in the annual revenue requirement and tariff petition for 2021-22 to the JERC

Meanwhile, during the public hearing of the JERC, members of the Indian Citizens’ Forum submitted objections and suggestions to thecommission.

SK Nayyar, president, said: “Due to the bimonthly billing, the consumers are being forced to pay surcharges @ 4 per cent for the total bill. If the commission wants to retain the bimonthly billing, surcharge due to late payment should be granted @2 per cent per cycle instead of per month.”
