The Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, registered a thumping 17-0 win against Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, on the opening day of the All India Inter-University Rugby Championship at the Chandigarh University, Gharuan today. The University of Calicut defeated Bengaluru City University 40-0, while Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (deemed to be university), Bhubaneswar, blanked University of Rajasthan 42-0.

On Tuesday, Paher University, Udaipur, will take on Shri Khushal Das University, Hanumangarh, while the University of Sports Board, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, will play against Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. The University of Calicut will play against the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and Panjab University will take on the University of Mumbai in pool A matches.

In pool B, the University of Lucknow will face Dr BR Ambedkar University, Agra, and Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University will play against Aligarh University. Lovely Professional University will play against Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon. As many as 57 teams are competing in the five-day long tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by Prof Devinder Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University, at the sports complex, Chandigarh University.
