Vanshika Sharma defeated Gyaanda Sharma 21-10, 21-10 in the girls’ U-13 preliminary round on the opening day of the Chandigarh State Badminton Championship-2020 (U-13, U-15 and U-17) at the Sector 38 Sports Complex here today.
In other matches, Ridhima Saini defeated Glory Katoch 21-6, 21-4, Ashvi Bhardwaj ousted Kashvi Sood 21-11, 21-19, Ishveen defeated Ayushi 21-10, 21-9 and Pritibha Ranga beat Vaanya Rao 21-3, 21-5.
Jasleen Kaur recorded a comeback 19-21, 21-13, 21-19 win over Manisha, while Tanishka overpowered Anika Sharma 21-9, 21-11. Anupriya defeated Sukhsehaj Kaur 21-1, 21-2 and Samridhi Shastri ousted Ridhima Saini 22-20, 21-14. In the boys’ U-13 category, Aayan defeated Divyansh Singh 21-7, 21-7, Aarush Sharma ousted Jashan Malhotra 21-3, 21-2 and Divyansh outplayed Saxsena Prince 21-6, 21-8. Uday Rana defeated Abhimanyu Malik 21-4, 21-5, Arnav Jatin defeated Kathuria 21-12, 21-13, Rishit Singla ousted Aryaveer 21-13, 21-14 and Tusya Nakra defeated Shaurya 21-12 21-18.
Rassia logs victory
Rassia Bhanot won the girls’ U-15 match against Anugeet Kaur 21-12, 21-5. Vanshika Sharma also won an easy tie against Avika Bhadada 21-10, 21-12 and Daman Kaur defeated Bandana Singh 21-17, 21-10. Amulya Adhikari registered a 21-10, 21-16 win over Manasvi Bakshi and Jaskamal defeated Samridhi Shastri 21-12, 21-11.Gurmant Kaur recorded a 21-16, 21-8 victory over Aishani Sood and Aujasvi Dhaneswar defeated Kashvi Mehta 21-1, 21-4.
Udit Raj Singh marched ahead in the boys’ U-15 category by defeating Bhuvnesh 21-9, 21-8. Suryansh Raghav defeated Simranjit Singh 21-3, 21-3, Krishna Sharma ousted Dakshvir Singh 21-7, 21-8 and Jayant Gaur defeated Suryansh 21-9, 21-18. In another match, Karan defeated Archit Thakur 21-11, 21-6.
In the girls’ U-17 round, Gurmant Kaur defeated Jaspinder Preet 21-3, 21-3, Rakshita Pahwa ousted Daman Kaur 21-10, 21-14, Rijul Saini defeated Ashnoor Kaur 21-2, 21-6, Khwahish Manhotra outplayed Lakshita 21-5, 21-3 and Krishan Yadav blanked Ronit R Sharma 21-9, 21-12.
Earlier, the tournament was announced open by Surinder Mahajan, Secretary, Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA) and international player, and Col Raj Parmar, senior vice-president, CBA. Over 300 players are participating in this championship and all matches were telecast live for the benefit of players and parents at the tournament venue.
The championship is also being conducted with the support and guidance of the UT Sports Department.
