Chandigarh: Akshi Goyal, a PhD research scholar from Panjab University (PU), has been selected for the Newton Bhabha PhD Placement Programme. Goyal is under the supervision of Dr Suman Mor, Associate Professor, Department of Environment Studies, PU, and Dr Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor, PGI. The British Council, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India, and Indian Higher Education Institutions recently announced the results for the programme. The Newton-Bhabha Fund offers an opportunity for the UK and Indian PhD scholars to spend a period of their study (up to two to four months) in Indian and UK higher education institutions. TNS

Training in housekeeping
Chandigarh: The Image Management Professionals Association (IMPA), Chandigarh chapter, started an initiative called ‘Maid in Heaven’. The IMPA member and image consultant Omkareshwari Pal organised a session on Tuesday to train 36 women at the Lions Club, Ramdarbar, for imparting training to participants in basic housekeeping, grooming, body language and communication skills. The aim of the initiative is to empower participants for earning better. TNS
Int’l scholarship for PU student
Chandigarh: Karan Godara, a research scholar at the PU, has been awarded a merit-based scholarship for attending winter courses hosted by the Hague Academy of International Law. Beneficiaries of scholarships have included judges and eminent jurists from the field of international law. The Hague Academy, established in 1923, is housed within the Peace Palace, sharing its premises with the United Nations’ International Court of Justice. TNS
Tiranga Yatra for CAA
Kharar: A rally, Tiranga Yatra, was held by various organisations in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Act. The rally began from Sri Ram Bhawan and passed through various parts of the city. The participants were critical of the opponents of the Act. Various speakers, while addressing the gathering, said the Act would give citizenship to various minorities from other countries. They said false propaganda against the CAA was in motion due to political reasons. OC
