Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig announced the launch of the PU Relief Fund, enabling alumni and the university fraternity to extend monetary contributions. She flagged off a consignment of essential relief material meant for flood-affected areas of Amritsar.
The initiative was organised under the aegis of the Centre for Human Rights and Duties (CHRD) in collaboration with the Vatrukh Foundation.
A team of the Centre for Social Work left for Fazilka and Ferozepur in the university bus, carrying the relief material.
University Registrar Prof YP Verma welcomed suggestions from faculty, staff and students to strengthen the relief efforts. CHRD Chairperson Upneet Kaur Mangat said the consignment had contributions, including dry rations, medicines, sanitary items, tarpaulins, mosquito nets and water, donated by faculty (serving and retired), students, non-teaching staff, alumni and city residents.
