Vijay Hazare Trophy: Skipper Manan’s ton powers UT victory over Mizoram
City boys registered their first win in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. The team logged a six-wicket win over Mizoram. Skipper Manan Vohra scored a century as the local team achieved the 170-run target in 31.2 overs.
After winning the toss, Chandigarh skipper put Mizoram to bat. The side collapsed at 169 in 36 overs as Nishunk Birla took three wickets for 40 runs, while Abhishek Saini and Jagjit Singh Sandhu claimed two wickets each. Nikhil Sharma, Shivam Bhambri and Hardik Chowdhry were the other wicket-takers. Meanwhile, struggling at 89/7, the Mizoram team got some strength as KC Cariappa smashed 41 off 14 balls, with six sixes and took the team to a respectable score. Earlier, K Vanrotlinga (33 off 48 balls with five boundaries) and Thankhuma (21) scored major runs for the side.
In reply, Chandigarh had the worst start of the season as the top order — Arsalan Khan, Bhambri, Tushar Joshi and Hardik Chaudhary — returned without making any contribution. Reeling at 13/4, Vohra and Ankit Kaushik took the charge and raised an unbeaten partnership of 160 runs confirming the victory for the side. Manan scored 101 off 102 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and three sixes, while Kaushik scored 58 off 70 balls with seven boundaries.
Chandigarh’s first match against Tamil Nadu was abandoned due to rain while the team lost its second match against Chhattisgarh. Chandigarh’s fourth match will be against Vidarbha on December 28.
