Vijay Hazare Trophy: Tons by Tushar, Manan help UT grab full points
Two stunning centuries by Tushar Joshi (131) and Manan Vohra (107) led Chandigarh to log a convincing seven-wicket win over Jammu and Kashmir in the Vijay Hazare Trophy being held in Vizag. While chasing 285-run target, Chandigarh batters posted 291/3 in 43 overs as Joshi contributed a brilliant 131 off 109 balls, studded with 15 boundaries and four sixes, and Vohra scored 107 off 104 balls, with 11 boundaries and three sixes. The duo also laid winning foundation for the side, as they raised a 237-run opening wicket partnership.
Shivam Bhambri (27), Raj Angad Bawa (10), Ankit Kaushik (8) also scored runs as Chandigarh successfully chased the target. Sunil Kumar grabbed two wickets and Abid Mushtaq took one for the bowling side.
Earlier, batting first, Jammu and Kashmir batters posted 285/8 in allotted 50 overs. The side opened with Vivrant Sharma and Shubham Khajuria. The partnership lasted for 56 runs as Nikhil Sharma accounted Vivrant (21). While Jammu and Kashmir innings got some stability with Khajuria scoring 72 (off 59 balls, with 11 boundaries and two sixes) with the support of Musaif Ajaz (20), Chandigarh’s Nishunk Birla swung into action. Birla not only claimed both Khajuria and Ajaz, but also claimed Abdul Samad (9).
Thereafter, Jammu and Kashmir innings further faced trouble as PK Dogra (8) was back to the pavilion without troubling the total. Sahil Lotra (40 off 53 balls, with five boundaries) and Lone Nasir Muzaffar (28 off 35 balls, with two boundaries and two sixes) provided some relief to the side, before Lubana claimed Lotra and Saini accounted Muzaffar. Shivansh Sharma (6) was run out by Lubana, as the side struggled at 218/8.
However, still eight overs to go, the side got a major boost as Abid Mushtaq scored an unbeaten 53 off 45 balls, with three boundaries and three sixes, while Rasikh Salam contributed unbeaten 21 off 19 balls, with two boundaries. Birla returned with 3/24, while Nikhil (2/48) and Saini (1/83) were the other main wicket takers for the bowling side.
