Vinija Vijayan of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) set a new meet record to win the triple jump gold on the second day of the 68th All India Police Athletics Championship at Tau Devi Lal Stadium here today.
Vinija covered a distance of 13.32m to eclipse the previous record of 13.31m set in 2005.
Melva George (12.91m) of Border Security Force (BSF) won the silver, while Sonam (12.91m) returned home with the bronze medal.
In the men’s triple jump competition, Tamil Nadu’s Dinesh won the gold medal with a leap of 15.82m, while Sonu Kumar (15.77m) of Rajasthan Police bagged the silver. Sundar C (15.43m), also from Tamil Nadu, clinched the bronze medal.
Manu finishes on top
In the men’s high jump, Manu Francis (2.09m) of Kerala Police claimed the gold medal. He was followed by Tamil Nadu Police’s Veeramani S (2.06m) and Manivannan R (2m) in second and third places, respectively.
Sreedhu GS of Tamil Nadu Police scored 2950 points to claim the lead in the men’s decathlon event. His teammates Durai Murugan S (2990) and Theivendiran R (2807) ended the day in second and third positions, respectively.
BSF’s Newton Katoky topped the podium in the men’s javelin throw with 76.16m throw. Krishna Kumar (73.54m) of Uttar Pradesh Police finished second, while CRPF’s Manjinder Singh (72.91m) pocketed the bronze medal.
Sarabbjit triumphs
In the women’s hammer throw, Punjab’s Sarabbjit Kaur won the gold medal with a 56.69m throw. CRPF’s Anita (55.72m) bagged the silver, while her teammate Anmol Kaur (55.38m) took home the bronze medal.
BSF’s Baldeep Singh (61.30m), CRPF’s Rahul Kumar (61.30m) and Gurjohar Singh (59.64m), also from BSF, won the top-three positions in the men’s hammer throw contest.
In the men’s shot put competition, Jasdeep Singh (17.72m) of Punjab Police claimed the gold medal, whereas Umesh Kumar (17.22m) of CRPF won the silver. Jaspal Singh (16.84m), also from Punjab Police, won the bronze medal.
Shrawan, Seema shine
Shrawan Kumar of Rajasthan Police clocked 29:40.79s to win the 10000m gold. He was followed by Punjab Police’s Makhan Singh (30:07.21s) in second place, while Rakesh Kumar, also from Rajasthan Police, recorded a timing of 30:10.83s to bag the third position.
In the women’s 10000 run, Punjab Police’s Seema Devi (34:28.94s) won the gold, while Meenu (35:44.26s) of Rajasthan Police claimed the silver medal. Saigeeta Naik (36:00.17s) of Maharashtra Police occupied the third spot.
Khushbu runs to gold
Khushbu Gupta of Sashastra Seema Bal won the 1500m gold with a timing of 4:27.02s. Sonali Desai (4:28.78s) of Maharashtra Police finished second and BSF’s Sugandha (4:31.17s) claimed the third position.
Naganathan P of Tamil Nadu Police clocked 46.61s to win the gold medal in the men’s 400 race. Bipin MS (47.13s) of Kerala Police and Bighneraj Mirid of Odisha Police (47.31s) won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the women’s 400m contest, CRPF’s Ayana Thomas (53.34s) won the gold medal. Punjab Police’s Veerpal Kaur (54.08s) got the silver medal and Smruthimol VR (54.09s) of Kerala Police bagged the bronze medal.
Kerala runners impress
Kerala Police athletes claimed the top two positions in the men’s 100m dash. Midhun T clocked 10.54s to win the gold medal, while Aswin KP (10.55s) sealed the silver medal. Gurlal Singh of Punjab Police (10.65s) had to be content with the bronze medal.
Punjab Police’s Baljinder Singh won the men’s 20km walk with a timing of 1:25:18.52s. Manish Rawat (1:25:26.41s) of Uttarakhand Police claimed the second spot and Kulwant Singh (1:25:46.34s) of BSF finished third.
Punjab Police in lead
At the end of the second day, Punjab Police led the table with a total of 56 points. BSF with 45.50 points were second, while Tamil Nadu Police (39 points) occupied the third spot.
V Neerja, ADG, Punjab Police, and other senior officers of the ITBP, including IG IS Duhan, DIG Ashwani Kumar, Commandants MS Guleria and Surinder Khatri awarded the winners.
