Malkit Singh Jandiala, regarded as a stalwart of Hindustani classical ragas, enthralled the audience with his inspiring performance at Tagore Theatre on Thursday evening. He recited one raga of Sri Guru Granth Sahib that left the audience spellbound.

The performance, organised by Polo Hindustani Art Heritage and Cultural Trust along with Pracheen Kala Kendra, saw a huge response from music lovers from the tricity. Jandiala was accompanied by national and international artistes. Ustad Akram Khan of Ajrara Gharana was on tabla, Sumit Mishra from Banaras on harmonium and Murad Ali Khan, grandson of sarangi player Siddiqui Ahmed Khan, was on sarangi.

On this occasion, Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Charan Singh Sapra, former trustee of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, released a book on Gurmat Sangeet penned by Jandiala.

“I am overwhelmed to see the people’s response. I cannot believe that they have so much interest in listening to ragas. It is a great sign. We need to make a collective effort to keep our heritage and legacy alive for the coming generations,” said Jandiala. — TNS
