Walkathon held to promote healthy diet at ‘eat right mela’
In an effort to promote food safety, healthy eating and sustainable food habits, the Food Safety Administration and Health Department, organised a mass awareness campaign under the “Eat Right India” initiative.
The campaign featured a Walkathon from the New Administrative Block, Government Multispeciality Hospital, Sector-16, followed by the Eat Right Mela within the hospital premises.
The event, part of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s nationwide initiative, aims to encourage the adoption of fortified foods and millets as nutritious alternatives while spreading awareness about the importance of physical fitness.
The Walkathon, which was flagged off in the morning by Health and Family Welfare Director Suman Singh, witnessed participation from doctors, medical health workers, NSS volunteers, Anganwadi workers, students from Home Science College, and Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11. Participants actively engaged with the public, advocating for safe, healthy, and sustainable food choices.
Following the Walkathon, the Eat Right Mela was officially inaugurated by Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary Health-cum-Commissioner, UT Chandigarh. The event showcased 24 stalls featuring millet-based and organic products, allowing attendees to explore nutritious food options and sustainable eating habits.
The Mela offered multiple engaging activities such as yoga session, nukkad natak by Tara Group emphasising the importance of consuming healthy food and poem on millets presented by children from Bhavan Vidyalaya. A live cooking demonstration by Chef Vikas Chawla was also conducted to showcase millet-based easy-to-make recipes which should be adopted in day-to-day lifestyle for healthy living.
Various attendees took interest in the stalls, learning about the benefits of various nutritious products such as organic snacks, cold-pressed oil, desi ghee and millet-based products. Ajay Chagti personally interacted with stallholders, encouraging more awareness campaigns to promote healthy eating and lifestyle habits.
