The police arrested a wanted criminal after a brief encounter near Lakhnaur village on Sunday evening.
The suspect, Sandeep Kumar, a native of UP, was presently residing in an abandoned building in the Industrial Area, Phase 8-B.
According to sources, when a police team tried to apprehend him near the service road in Sector 89, he fired at cops in an attempt to flee. In response, cops fired a gunshot in the air to warn him. However, he fired again on the police team. The police fired in retaliation in which the suspect sustained an injury in the right leg. He was rushed to the Civil hospital in Phase 6.
The police said four rounds were fired by the suspect. They claimed that seven cases were already registered against him for various offences, including murder, rape, theft and kidnapping, besides under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, since 2020.
A fresh case has now been registered at the Sohana police station.
