The police said Bhupinder and his three accomplices, including Pargat Singh and Taranjeet Singh Soni, all residents of Malerkotla, had snatched a luxury car at gunpoint from two employees of a university, Tara Singh and Tushar Sharma, on the Landran-Sirhind road near Jhanjeri on the night of August 17. “Three accused were later nabbed from Malerkotla. Today, inspector Gabbar Singh received an information that Bhupinder was coming on his bike. When the police signalled him to stop, he fled the spot. As the cops chased him, he fell down beneath a bridge. When the police asked him to surrender, he fired at Gabbar Singh, but the bullet hit the police vehicle. In the retaliatory fire, he was shot in the leg and nabbed,” said Mohali SP Saurav Jindal.

The police have recovered the car stolen from the CGC employees and the one used in the crime. They seized a pistol and narcotic substance from Bhupinder after the shootout.

All accused already have three-four cases registered against them. A fresh case under the Arms Act and NDPS Act was registered at the Sadar Kharar police station today.
