Officials said Bhupinder and his three accomplices — Pargat Singh, Taranjeet Singh Soni and one more person, all resident of Malerkotla — had allegedly snatched a luxury car at gunpoint from two CGC Jhanjheri employees, Tara Singh and Tushar Sharma at Landran-Sirhind road near Jhanjeri on August 17 night.

Mohali SP Saurav Jindal said three accused were earlier nabbed from Malerkotla. He said on Monday, Inspector Gabbar Singh received a tip-off about Bhupinder’s movement on a bike.

“When the team signalled Bhupinder to stop, he fled the spot. During the chase, his bike fell beneath a bridge,” he said.

When asked to surrender, Bhupinder opened fired at the police team. The bullet hit the police vehicle. The police team retaliated, injuring the accused, who was then arrested, said the SP.

Following the arrest, police recovered the snatched car and another car used in the crime, along with a pistol, and narcotic substance from Bhupinder.

A case under the Arms Act and NDPS Act has been registered at the Sadar Kharar police station.
