Panchkula, April 16
From Monday onwards, the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) will start issuing challans to those found wasting water.
For a week, HSVP teams comprising junior engineers and SDOs only issued warnings to violators and informed them about the drive.
We gave enough time to residents to inform them about our drive. Now, we will start imposing fine from Monday onwards. — NK Payal, HSVP XEN (Civil)
During this period, residents in several parts of the city were still seen washing vehicles and watering lawns or courtyards.
HSVP XEN (Civil) NK Payal said: “We gave enough time to residents to inform them about our drive. Now, we will start imposing fine from Monday onwards.”
For the first offence, a fine of Rs. 5,000 will be imposed on the violator. If the offence is repeated, water connection of the violator will be disconnected without any notice. An amount of 1,000 will have to be paid for the revival of the water connection.
According to the HSVP, the teams will also videograph the offence. With soaring temperature, residents from various sectors have been reporting supply of water at low pressure.
SK Nayar, president of the Citizens’ Welfare Association, had said that water was supposed to be supplied four hours in the morning and evening, but it comes for half the duration.
“Moreover, the pressure remains low. Even those living on the ground floors also face problems,” he said.
