Mohali, March 22

A cleanliness drive was carried out at the Siswan reservoir in Mohali district by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Ropar Division, to mark World Water Day.

A team of the department, comprising Mohan Singh, RO, Mohali; Satinderpal Singh, BO, Siswan; Maninder Kumar, RO, Siswan, and Ramzan Khan, RO, Siswan; facilitated the participants.

Dr Monika Yadav, DFO Wildlife, said areas near the water bodies such as Siswan reservoir needed to be cleaned as garbage thrown around eventually travels into these bodies that not only contaminated the water but also impacted the health of people and animals using that water. She said despite the unexpected rain, more than 100 people participated in the drive who removed the garbage.

Dr Yadav said students from Khelshala participated in the drive that covered the complete stretch near the Siswan reservoir. Khelshala also assured the department of participation of its students in the coming activities of good cause held by the department.
