Wheels of car stolen in Sec 51

Chandigarh: Two wheels of a car have been stolen from Sector 51 here. According to the police, Gurdasrshan Singh, a resident of Sector 51, reported that some unknown person stole two wheels of his Baleno car while it was parked outside his house on January 7. The police were informed about the incident, following which a case has been registered at the Sector 49 police station. The police have begun an investigation into the case. It may be mentioned that during the past three months, over a dozen incidents of wheel theft have been reported in the city. The police have so far failed to nab the miscreants involved in the crime. Kharar: The city police have registered a case under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act 1995 against Jagdish Kumar, director, Model Town Extension-1, Kharar. The SHO, City, Bhagwant Singh, said in his complaint the Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Kharar, had alleged that the suspect had developed a colony in which he failed to carry on development works and provide basic amenities to residents. oc

Rape suspect arrested

Kharar: The Sadar police have arrested Devinder Singh, a resident of Barouli village, who allegedly raped a 17-year-old minor girl. The police registered a case under Section 376, IPC, and the POCSO Act against the suspect on the basis of complaint filed by the victim’s mother. The suspect was produced in a local court from where he was sent to one day police remand. oc

Man jailed for carrying ganja

Chandigarh: A local court on Thursday awarded six-month imprisonment to a resident of Mani Majra in a drug case. The court of Vijay Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Brij Lal. According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested with 4-kg ganja from near the Motor Market in Mani Majra on March 10, 2017. A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act was registered against him at the Mani Majra police station. TNS

Yamunanagar native held for fraud

Ambala: The police have arrested Virender Kumar of Yamunanagar in a case of fraud, officials said here on Thursday. According to the police, a woman had reported to the police that the suspect, along with his accomplices, had defrauded her of a huge sum of money in an investment fraud on the false promise of doubling the amount. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to two-day police custody. TNS

Ambala resident held for assault

Ambala: The police have arrested Gangu of Ambala City in a case of assault, officials said here on Thursday. According to the police, Ankit of Ambala City had reported to the police that the suspect, along with his accomplices, had assaulted and threatened him with dire consequences in Ambala City on January 6. The suspect was produced before a court, which ordered to release him on bail. TNS

Chandigarh: Satya Kakkar (74), wife of retired District Attorney JC Kakkar, passed away on January 4. She is survived by son Karunesh Kakkar, Judge, Special CBI Court, Mohali, and daughter Anshul Berry, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Labour Court, Chandigarh. Bhog ceremony will be held at Bahadurpur-based Mahnto Ka Dera, near the Municipal Corporation Office, Hoshiarpur, on January 12. TNS

Man held guilty in drug case

Chandigarh: A local court has held a 28-year-old resident of Mauli Jagran guilty in a drug case. According to the prosecution, an FIR was registered against convict Sunny under Section 22 of the NDPS Act at the Sector 34 police station on October 7, 2017. He was found carrying 34 injections (17 injections of pheniramine maleate and 17 injections of buprenorphine) near the gurdwara chowk in Sector 32, Chandigarh. As the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, the court held him guilty. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on January 14. TNS
