When Sukhna becomes a poem in motion
As dusk fell, the sun dipped behind the western horizon, painting the sky in amber hues. Cruising along the Sukhna Lake was mesmerising and I just wanted to freeze the moment — the water shimmered, and the world seemed to pause. Along the promenade, couples, joggers, and families stood in silence, soaking in nature’s quiet spectacle.
It seemed as if our boat was skimming on golden waves. Two newly-married couples were sharing the boat with us. The boatman played some peppy Punjabi numbers for them — ‘Gur naal ishq mitha’, ‘Laung da lashkara’ to ‘Lamborghini’. Caught in the moment, they broke into a spontaneous bhangra, while we hummed and tapped along, laughter echoing across the water.
As the dark deepened, the music faded, and silence returned. A soft breeze caressed our faces. Birds chattered, owls hooted, and street lights flickered to life. The lake mirrored their glow in its shimmering ripples.
Twilight by the Sukhna Lake isn’t just a sensory treat — it’s a poem in motion.
