A homemaker and politician, Harpreet Kaur Babla (60), has spent over two decades in the political arena. She was first elected councillor in 2001 on a Congress ticket, before triumphing again in 2021. She eventually switched sides and joined the BJP after the elections.

The daughter of a retired Colonel, she attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Dehradun, before graduating with a Master’s degree in English from the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Chandigarh.

Her husband, Devinder Singh Babla, is also a two-term councillor. The couple’s son, Yudhveer Singh Babla, is in the real estate business. Their second son, meanwhile, Paramveer Singh Babla, is the youngest executive member of Chandigarh Club.

"My priority will be to generate revenue for the cash-strapped Municipal Corporation. I will do my best to restore the past glory of City Beautiful. My focus will be on clearing waste from the Dadu Majra dumping ground and development of villages and colonies ," said Harpreet.
