Will help resolve issues, MP Manish Tewari assures grain market traders

Local MP Manish Tewari today assured traders of the grain market in Sector 26 here to resolve the problems faced by them.

During the MP’s visit to the market, Grain Market Association president Mohit Sood and other office-bearers raised issues, including cleanliness, deteriorating infrastructure, high municipal charges, lack of parking space, security and frequent harassment by officials under the guise of enforcement.

Tewari announced Rs 10 lakh from the funds under the MPLAD scheme for the provision of security cameras in the grain market. HS Lucky, president, Chandigarh Congress, was also present on the occasion.

Later in the evening, both leaders attended two more interactive programmes — one at the Wool Market in Sector 38 and the other at Mauli Jagran Colony. People shared with them the day-to-day problems they were facing, including lack of basic civic amenities, poor sanitation and increasing law and order concerns.

Tewari said, “The condition of our marketplaces and residential colonies is a reflection of the UT Administration’s priorities. Unfortunately, the BJP-led system has neglected both. It is the duty of any representative government to ensure that traders, small businesses and residents are not harassed but helped. We are committed to raising your voice at every forum and ensuring that your rights are protected.”

Lucky said, “From Sector 26 to Mauli Jagran, one thing is clear — people are troubled by administrative apathy and rising daily struggles.”
