Woman crushed under bus wheels in Zirakpur

An unidentified middle-aged woman was crushed to death under the wheels of a public transport bus near the Patiala chowk here this afternoon. Local resident said the woman was crossing the road when she was run over by the bus. The driver of the government undertaking bus reportedly sped off after the incident.

The victim died on the spot even as passersby called the police. Residents said the police did not arrive at the spot even 30 minutes after being informed about the accident. The accident led to a heavy traffic jam at the spot. The identity of the victim could not be established when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, a police team reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital.

A case of hit-and-run has been registered at the Zirakpur police station. Officials said they were scanning the CCTV footage of the area to identify the vehicle.
